Associate Professor of the Mechanics and Mathematics Department of NSU held a round table "Olympiads and Scientific Schools" at the RUSCRYPTO-2026 conference 3 Apr 2026

From March 24 to 27, the 28th Scientific and Practical Conference RUSCRYPTO, dedicated to current issues of cryptography and information security, was held in the Moscow region. The event gathered over 500 participants and experts from across the country to discuss the most pressing topics — from state standards, security of electronic document management, and legislative changes to post-quantum cryptography and details of new cryptographic protocols.

At the opening of the conference, Alexander Shoytov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, delivered a speech. He addressed issues of certification in the field of cryptography, the impact of artificial intelligence on the industry, and post-quantum cryptography.

Natalia Tokareva, Associate Professor of the Mechanics and Mathematics Department of NSU and Head of the Cryptography Laboratory at the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, was invited to RUSCRYPTO as an expert to organize and moderate the round table "Olympiads and Scientific Schools," which began immediately after the conference opening. The co-moderator of the round table was Marina Pudovkina, Professor at the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" and Director of the RusCrypto Association.

Representatives from the fields of education and science, as well as market experts, discussed the key olympiads in the field of cryptography and information security held in our country, as well as issues of engaging schoolchildren, students, and professionals in them.

"— I would like to note the great interest from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Digital Development, regulators, and businesses in organizing scientific and educational events in the field of cryptography. I was particularly pleased to note the significance of our own NSUCRYPTO olympiad and its companion event — the Summer School 'Cryptography and Information Security,' which will be held in Moscow this year," shared Natalia Tokareva.

RUSCRYPTO is an annual scientific and practical conference dedicated to current issues in cryptography and information security. It serves as a platform for communication among specialists in the fields of cryptography and information protection. The event is attended each year by developers and their potential clients, scientists and officials, as well as experts from commercial and government organizations. RusCrypto brings together theory and practice, presentations of new technologies, and an exchange of opinions.

We remind you that in 2025 the Summer School was held in Saint Petersburg, in 2024 – in Taganrog, in 2023 – in Kaliningrad, and prior to that – in Novosibirsk. The new summer school is poised to become the largest and most exciting one – the organizers are preparing many pleasant surprises.

Dear friends, we are looking forward to your applications!

More than 1,300 students, professionals, and school students from 35 countries participated in NSUCRYPTO-2025 21 Oct 2025

A major international event, the Non-Stop University CRYPTO cryptography Olympiad, was successfully held from October 12th to 20th.

This year, the Olympiad was held for the twelfth time and again saw the largest number of participants. Over 1,300 registrations were recorded for both rounds from 35 countries: Russia, India, Vietnam, China, Belarus, Belgium, Italy, Kazakhstan, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Turkmenistan, the USA, the UK, Pakistan, Turkey, Australia, Bangladesh, Spain, Sweden, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia, Moldova, Indonesia, Palestine, France, Hungary, Germany, South Korea, Finland, and Luxembourg.

"Our participants come from every inhabited continent: Eurasia, America, Africa, and Australia! Their numbers are growing every year, as is interest in the event. Participants were presented with 15 diverse problems. Their topics ranged widely: from historical ciphers to cryptographic protocols, cryptanalysis and reverse engineering, quantum security, lattice cryptosystems, and cryptocurrencies. Interestingly, the first solution to the Olympiad problem was submitted just eight minutes after the start of the first round. In total, we received over two thousand solutions, which we will now thoroughly examine," comments Natalia Tokareva, Chair of the Olympiad Program Committee and Associate Professor at NSU.

The Non-Stop University CRYPTO Olympiad is the only international cryptography competition. It brings together schoolchildren, students, and professionals from all over the world. Anyone can participate, regardless of geographic location. The official language of the Olympiad is English. The goal of the Olympiad is to engage young researchers in solving problems in modern cryptography.

The organizers and partners of the Olympiad are Cryptographic Center (Novosibirsk), National Technological Center for Digital Cryptography, Novosibirsk State University, Kryptonit, Aktiv, University of Leuven (Belgium), Southern Federal University, Infotecs, Sofia Kovalevskaya North-West Center for Mathematical Research, Belarusian State University, Tomsk State University, and Nsucrypto-Lab.

The official results of the Olympiad will be announced in November 2025.

Registration for the NSUCRYPTO-2025 International Cryptography Olympiad is now open 24 Sep 2025

The twelfth International Cryptography Olympiad, Non-Stop University CRYPTO-2025, will be held from October 12th to 20th. This is the largest event in the field of cryptography and information security, traditionally attracting significant attention from the professional community.

Students, professionals, and school students from all over the world can challenge themselves to solve game-based problems and complex scientific problems in modern cryptography. More than 1,000 people from at least 45 countries participate in the Olympiad annually. The Olympiad is held in English and consists of two independent remote rounds: the individual round on October 12 and the team round from October 13 to 20. Registration is now open on the Olympiad website: nsucrypto.nsu.ru/.

NSUCRYPTO is the only international cryptography olympiad that includes both academic problems and unsolved scientific problems. The goal of the olympiad is to engage young researchers in modern cryptography. Following each olympiad, scientific papers are published analyzing the problems posed to participants, including unsolved ones that require separate scientific research. Winners are awarded prizes.
