The Summer School on Cryptography and Information Security started in Taganrog 3 Jul 2024

The Cryptography 2024 Summer School has successfully started!

The Summer School "Cryptography and Information Security" is a traditional event organized by the Cryptographic Center (Novosibirsk) and the International Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok. This year the Summer School is organized in cooperation with the Southern Federal University and on its base in the city of Taganrog.

The city is known not only as the birthplace of A.P. Chekhov and F.G. Ranevskaya, but also as the first Russian port on the Sea of Azov founded by Peter the Great. Taganrog got its name in honor of the cape Taganiy Rog (from Tatar - "high cape"), on which the fortress was previously located. It is in this historical part of the city that the Summer School takes place.

From July 1 to July 15, 70 students and teachers from Novosibirsk, Taganrog, Rostov-on-Don, Tomsk, Sevastopol, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Stavropol and other cities will work together on topical issues of modern cryptography. Both lectures and project work are already in full swing.

Participants of the school are expected to attend 30 specialized lectures and teamwork in 13 projects related to solving educational and research problems in the field of cryptography and information security. One of the most important events of the school is a round table on modern problems of cryptography. The students will also enjoy walks around Taganrog, sports activities, a friendly volleyball match and the main event of the school - the final conference on the results of the work with the publication of theses.

The Summer School-Conference is organized by the Cryptographic Center (Novosibirsk) with the support of the International Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok and the Southern Federal University.

NSU awarded the winners of the Tenth International Cryptography Olympiad NSUCRYPTO'2023 20 Jun 2024

The participants of the tenth anniversary Olympiad were awarded prizes with NSUCRYPTO symbols and medals. The ceremony was attended by Mikhail Fedoruk, Rector of Novosibirsk State University, and Igor Marchuk, Dean of the Mechanical and Mathematical Faculty of NSU.

In the first, individual round, the second degree diploma was awarded to NSU MMF student Sergey Kurchev. Diplomas of the third degree were awarded to students of the Faculty of Information Technologies and Mehmat - Nikolay Yakovlev, Konstantin Romanov and Sergey Kotov. The participants managed to beat representatives of such countries as Iran, Singapore and Vietnam. Roman Lebedev, a PhD student of FIT, was also awarded a third degree diploma in the "professionals" category. His rivals were strong competitors from Germany and India.

In the team round the second degree diplomas were awarded to the team of NSU MMF: Alexander Bochkarev, Fedor Kobzev, Nikolay Matrokhin and Sergey Makogon, Semyon Kochetkov, Kirill Tretyakov, and the third degree diploma to the team of NSU MMF students consisting of Anvar Mukumov, Egor Plotnikov and Kirill Kirillov.

We should also note the outstanding result of the team of NSU MMF students - Alexander Bakharev, Rinchin Zapanov and Sergey Zinchenko, who took first place in the team round. The guys scored a record 60 points, thus beating their colleagues from MIT and Cambridge (USA), Vietnam, Romania, Hungary, as well as strong teams from other Russian cities. In the overall medal standings, the team was second only to the team of professionals from the cryptographic laboratory COSIC from Belgium.

In his welcoming speech Mikhail Fedoruk recalled how the NSUCRYPTO Olympiad has been developing for ten years, and also noted the importance of information security in the modern world. Igor Marchuk, in his turn, emphasised that the mathematical language is an international language, as it unites different people and it is impossible to do cryptography without knowledge of this language. Natalia Tokareva, Chair of the Programme Committee of the Olympiad, Associate Professor at NSU, noted Russia's strong performance at the 2023 Olympiad - our country has earned more than 30 medals.

In the final part of the event the participants were welcomed with tea and a colourful cake with the Olympiad logo.

Non-Stop University CRYPTO Olympiad is the only international Olympiad in cryptography. It unites both pupils and students and professionals from all over the world. Anyone can take part in the Olympiad, regardless of geographical location. The official language of the Olympiad is English. The aim of the Olympiad is to attract young researchers to the solution of modern cryptography questions.

The organizers and partners of the Olympiad were the Cryptographic Centre (Novosibirsk), Novosibirsk State University, International Mathematical Centre in Akademgorodok, North-West Centre for Mathematical Research named after Sofia Kovalevskaya, University of Leuven (Belgium), Southern Federal University, Belarusian State University, Tomsk State University, Kryptonite, Demlabs and Aktiv companies.

❗Registration is open for the Summer School on Cryptography and Information Security (1-15 July 2024, Taganrog) 18 Mar 2024

The Summer School-Conference "Cryptography and Information Security" is a traditional event organised by the Cryptographic Centre and the International Mathematical Centre in Akademgorodok. This year the Summer School is organised in cooperation with and on the basis of the Southern Federal University.

Dates and venue: 1 July - 15 July 2024, Taganrog. Participation format: full-time. There is a possibility of partial material support for the arrival and accommodation of non-resident participants.

The students are expected to attend lectures, team and individual work in projects related to solving research problems in the field of cryptography and information security, sports activities. One of the most important events of the school-conference is a round table on modern problems of cryptography. The topics of the projects will touch upon the construction of cryptographic protocols for solving authentication, identification, key transfer, messaging and other cryptographic problems. Particular attention will be paid to cryptographic protocols for solving problems faced by dynamically changing topology (DFT) group objects and their security issues.
